Billings -> Sturgis, South Dakota 08-10-11

10 Oct

Entering South Dakota, the next stop was ‘Sturgis’, a small town, but is well known for the motorcycle (predominantly Harley) rally that has been held here for the last 71 years. Hundreds of thousands people flock here each year in 2000 they have had over 750,000 people turn up for the rally, it’s hard to comprehend how a town with a population of 6,000 handles it. I think most of the town actually shuts down when the rally isn’t on, I only found a few places open, a couple of bike shops and a pub or two.

As you can tell from my photos the rally is not held in October, otherwise it would have looked like this:

Maybe next year…
